«Inner Ocean» serie of paintings that has been created in beautiful surrounding of Atlantic Coast in Portugal. In impressive place where creative process is strong influenced by the nature. In our times of high speed, stresses and new technologies we prefer to think that our language is a language of text (to talk by phone, message, e-mail etc.).
In this serie of paintings Alex Solodov try to refer to the image as more ancient and more powerfull instrument of a language.

«Eternal Forest» is a symbolic story. Featuring surrounding of Sintra, the old historic town in Portugal, this painting inspired by dreams in transcription of psychological concepts, including the archetype and the collective unconscious by Carl Gustav Jung.

«The archetype concept derives from the often repeated observation that myths and universal literature stories contain well defined themes which appear every time and everywhere. We often meet these themes in the fantasies, dreams, delirious ideas and illusions of persons living nowadays». Carl Gustav Jung.

«Fortuna» is a visual note book of memories. Lonely boat is the starting point in a journey into the past. Taken from the stream of life, it becomes a refuge for the dreams, where are living the shadows of dead ancestors. As a wheel
of fortune blindly follow the whims of fate, the memories come suddenly, inhabiting the space between sleep and vigil.

«When we die we remain close to Earth, close to loved ones and it is the responsibility of those still living to care for the dead and elevate them closer to the light, to Heaven...toward God. We elevate our ancestors through prayer, having masses said, lighting candles and leaving glasses of water, flowers and perfume as offerings. We believe that the more we help the dead, the faster they shake off their sins and spiritual baggage and rise closer to God. They in turn will bless us with health, money and good fortune in this life.» Voodoo people  beliefs

«Endless Light» is a streams of light that falling down to the sand.
Sun light can be very desirable, bringing relaxation and joy. But also it can be harmfull and destructive when the balance between dark and light is broken.

«Tucked inside the very center of our galaxy is a monstrous black hole, billions of times as massive as the sun. This supermassive black hole may have started off smaller, but the ample supply of dust and gas allowed it to gorge itself and grow into a giant. Most galaxies are thought to have a black hole in their heart.» Space.com

«Open Your Window on Fatima Day» is a small painting inspired by celebration of Our Lady of the Rosary or Our Lady of Fatima apparitions that have a place in close to Fatima towns and villages in Portugal. This extraordinary event has a great impact in spiritual life of Portugese people.

«On May 13, 1917, ten year old Lúcia Santos and her cousins Jacinta and Francisco Marto were herding sheep at a location known as the Cova da Iria near their home village of Fátima, Portugal. Lúcia described seeing a woman "brighter than the sun, shedding rays of light clearer and stronger than a crystal ball filled with the most sparkling water and pierced by the burning rays of the sun". Astonished they ran back to their village and told everyone. Further appearances were reported to have taken place on the thirteenth day of the month in June and July.» Wikipedia.org

Watching at the cloudy sky, especially on sea, where sun rays are creating the «holes» in the clouds that may be considered as «Heaven Doors». This interpretation has a long religious tradition in different confessions in Islam for example.

«Whoever spends two things in the way of Allah will be called from the gates of Paradise and will be addressed, 'O slave of Allah, here is prosperity!' So whoever was among the people who used to offer their prayers will be called from the gate of prayer; and whoever was among the people who used to participate in jihad will be called from the gate of jihad; and whoever was among those who used to observe fasts will be called from the gate of ar-Rayyaan; and whoever was among those who used to give in charity will be called from the gate of charity.» Prophet Muhammad

The name of the painting «Surfing» can be described as a sport where a man fighting with the wave on a board, but also it can be interpreted as man's struggle with the forces of nature. In this painting artist represents his vision of dualistic conception of life. Two figures on the beach are the symbols of active an passive approach to life. All together they are parts of the circle of Dao.

   «The Way that can be told of is not an unvarying way;
    The names that can be named are not unvarying names.
    It was from the Nameless that Heaven and Earth sprang;
    The named is but the mother that rears the ten thousand
    creatures, each after its kind.» 道德經: 道 Dao De Jing

«Yellow House» painting is reflect the loneliness of the artist on the edge of illness or the edge of madness when the mind is empty as an old abandoned yellow house

«I’m struggling with all my energy to master my work, telling myself that if I win this it will be the best lightning conductor for the illness. I take great care of myself by carefully shutting myself away; it’s selfish if you like, not to become accustomed to my companions in misfortune here instead, and to go to see them, but anyway I feel none the worse for it, for my work is progressing and
we have need of that, for it’s more than necessary that I do better than before, which wasn’t sufficient.» Vincent van Gogh

«Street in Sintra» the painting of light and shadows. Impressionistic manner of painting reminds about life without electric light, manner where blurring shadows were the constant elements of painting.

«The lines in Impressionist art are often subtle and blurry. There may or may not be a defined break between one shadow and the next, which creates a foggy effect. However, Impressionists loved to play with lights and shadows. Many employed a combination of striking, solid lines with visible soft lines. The painting may have a sharp silhouette line filled with blurred shadow lines or a blurry background with a sharp foreground.» Characteristic of Impressionist art

«Sintra Roofs» the painting with a strong impressionist influence, especially in attempt to show changing in structure of colours and light in every moment of watching.

«I’m chasing the merest sliver of color. It’s my own fault, I want to grasp the intangible. It’s terrible how the light runs out, taking color with it. Color, any color, lasts a second, sometimes three or four minutes at a time. What to do, what to paint in three or four minutes. They’re gone, you have to stop. Ah, how I suffer, how painting makes me suffer! It tortures me.» Claude Monet
