World Press Cartoon 2013 in Sintra, Portugal. | Alex Solodov Contemporary Art

After several months of living in Portugal, with the long period of adaptation to the new condition of life, I would like to write about the recent art event, that I went in Sintra  (beautiful old town near Lisbon) - World Press Cartoon 2013.

The exhibition is held in Centro Cultural Olga Cadaval in the center of Sintra. This World Press Cartoon 2013 exhibition have a good promotion posters that you can see when moving through the town and the nice welcoming staff on reception.
The first what I have noticed is an exelent artistic quality of cartoons.

When I looked at these sketches I have noticed some main features of the exposition.

Critical approach to the current economic situation in EU also of domination of US in politic and culture is a strong point of this exhibition.

Globalisation instead the real economical integration and Chinese invasion in economic space of EU.

Really interesting the cartoon with Steve Jobs, on this cartoon, he looks as a victim, not a prophet of consumer culture.

Tendency in contemporary art where we can see the artists-tycoons as Damien Hirst.

The only thing that looks pretty bright and idealistic is the cartoon with John and Joko Ono-Lennon.

It's makes me think what they look like a modern icon, but if we will look at ancient icons we can understood that is main difference for these images - strong belief in God or the power above human understanding in middle ages, in comparison with belief in   "idols" in modern consumer society.
